Avery Law has become a data-driven law firm
By not having to search documents or bother each other for specific information anymore, Avery Law managed to eliminate a lot of frustrations. With Henchman, they turned their existing database into a living knowledge management system.
Efficient workload and lower cost
Avery Law is a boutique corporate law firm specialising in the growth tech sector. David Turney, cofounder and managing partner at Avery Law, believes that legal tech is incredibly vital in the day to day of a lawyer’s life. “It keeps the workload very efficient and it also helps to keep the cost down for clients.”, he says. Since she started using Henchman, Jessica Coventry agrees: “It’s like having another colleague that helps me with that whole drafting process.”
“Henchman, is a tool that really helps me with my drafting and reviewing. It’s like having another colleague that helps me with that whole process.”

Create value out of existing documents
For Avery Law, drafting the old-fashioned way, was actually quite frustrating: searching through old knowledge database systems, or trying to speak to a colleague about previous transactions to find good precedents to use – and wait for their reply – took a lot of time.So they started exploring ways to create value out of their existing documents. Not easy, until they came across Henchman – as this is exactly what Henchman does: it allows them to take their database and turn it into a living knowledge management system.“A lot of other pieces of software and providers just couldn’t do that. And actually, traditionally, those software providers would still require us to provide a lot of manual implementation and time. What is great about Henchman is that it automates that entire process for you. So that is why we chose Henchman.”, David explains.

Enabling independent research
Avery Law uses Henchman to improve both the review and the drafting processes in Microsoft Word. By opening up the Henchman window, Jessica, David and their colleagues are able to search across their entire existing database and find perhaps relevant clauses. In the review process, on the other hand, they can easily compare existing market standard documents to the document they are currently working on.
Jessica is happy that she doesn’t have to bother David as much anymore with questions she usually would have asked him: “When drafting and trying to find the answer, I can now just independently research using the Henchman tool”.
